McDonalds is a very popular food chain which has outlets all over the world. The food chain is popular for its tasty burgers and fantastic deals. McDonalds is one of the best fast food restaurants of the world and has a huge customer base. As is the case in many other parts of the world, McDonald has been able to cater a huge market in the European region as well and almost all the European countries have welcomed the chain in their respective home countries. France has been no exception and there are many McDonalds outlets which you will see filled in the streets of France. Recently one town of France has actually resisted the opening of McDonald’s outlets with in its territories. The news has stunned every one including the higher management of McDonalds as well.
Saint-Romain-en-Viennois is a small and beautiful town located in the southeastern region of France. The town is precisely located in the province of Alpes-Côte d’Azur. The town is home to fair number of residents and is pretty well developed which perhaps can be the reason why McDonalds is thinking of entering this market. However entering the town of Saint-Romain-en-Viennois has not been a piece of cake for McDonalds at all so far as the locals are resisting the popular food chain to fill its streets.
The Crux of the News:
As stated already the residents are resisting McDonald’s entry into their town and they are very much serious about it and this can be understood from the fact that the locals have launched entire petition containing around 9000 signatures. Not limiting themselves on the petition, the residents have also written a letter to the mayor of the town in this regard. The exact date of the latter was 15th of August, 2016. However the locals are complaining that the Mayor has not responded to their please yet.
The biggest grievance which the residents of the town have is that they are not being asked to give their opinion on the project. The residents think that McDonalds will harm the environment of their entire area through the smell of frying food. However when the Mayor of the town was contacted on the issue, his reply was that he is helpless in the current situation and there is no concrete reason why McDonalds should enter into the market of Saint-Romain-en-Viennois. The Mayor shared the fact that the multimillion dollar food chain wants to set up its outlet in a private piece of land which is commercial hence by law no concrete action can be taken in this regard. To deny a food chain there must be some solid proof and evidence which is not there in this case.
The Management of McDonalds has so far not responded to the situation and they will only respond once the French government allows them to conduct their business in Saint-Romain-en-Viennois. However the opponents are pretty serious in their plan and they will be having a protest on the 24th of September, 2016.
